Who We Are

Here’s T(w)o Collective, co-created by Anna Bjella and Nia Sanders, seeks to understand how our bodies and socialized identities occupy space within our duets. We come together to engage with a combination of improvisatory practices, critical theory, and deep discussion to expand our understanding of what it means to make dance.

Examining our practice through the lenses of improvisatory practices, critical theory, and deep discussion allows us to continually work to reconcile the art that we desire to make with that which our bodies are trained to produce. Investigating our shared and individually learned techniques is a repetitive and cyclical process.

Through our investigations, we work to break down the origins of our movement so that we might build an artistic practice that both nods to where we come from and asks for something more. Our practice is one rooted in somatics, and focused on the effort of trying, again and again and again.
